NCAEP is pleased to announce the 4th round of our lunch and learn partnership with the US Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District. The meeting, NCDOT Processes and Permitting in the Wilmington District, will be held on 26 March in Charlotte and on 30 April in Wilmington.
Registration for the Charlotte event is required by COB on 24 March. Lunch will be sponsored by Spangler Environmental. Please contact Ward Marotti to learn about subsequent meetings’ sponsorship opportunities and to suggest future meeting topics.
Meeting Abstract:
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) manages one of the largest state-maintained highway systems in the country. Due to our state’s economic growth, transportation improvements are constantly necessary to ensure safe and efficient travel. NCDOT is committed to providing a safe transportation system that ensures the mobility of people and goods, enhances economic prosperity, and preserves the quality of our environment and communities.
The Wilmington District of the Corps works closely with NCDOT to develop processes that both meet the Corps’ regulatory requirements and provide streamlining for NCDOT’s improvement projects. We were one of the first states to partner on a process (now commonly used nationwide) to merge the NEPA and 404 decision-making process during project development. We continue to build on our successes by regularly introducing new efficiencies, such as updates to the NEPA/404 Merger process, the Corps’ Regional General Permit #31, NCDOT’s permitting processes, and NCDOT’s use of programmatic agreements in Section 7 and 106 consultation.
Monte Matthews (Corps Liaison to NCDOT) will join staff from NCDOT’s Environmental Coordination and Permitting Team (Carla Dagnino, Chris Rivenbark, and Michael Turchy) and staff from NCDOT’s Environmental Policy Unit (Colin Mellor and John Jamison) to discuss these topics and more. Audience questions and interaction are encouraged.
