Members of Bio-Tech Consulting’s Coastal and Marine Sciences division were in Guam to conduct coral surveys for an international project. The project’s goal is to enhance connectivity throughout the Pacific region.
The company’s scientific dive team conducted pre-project coral surveys and site reconnaissance for any anthropogenic (manmade) debris. They also identified hardbottom recipient sites for coral relocation and mitigation. The team’s coral relocation activities used coral-safe materials and followed industry best management practices. The project also called for stabilization and enhancement efforts for coral cover and the removal of any anthropogenic debris that was encountered.
Following the coral surveys and translocation efforts, Bio-Tech Consulting’s Coastal and Marine Sciences team will conduct follow-up surveys over the next several months. The team’s work will include coral health monitoring and reporting to ensure the long-term success of the project and the health of the relocated corals.
